Athlete of the week
Name: Amanda McCormack
Age: 11
Team: Ernestown Barracudas swim club
Amanda recently returned from the junior provincial swimming championships in Etobicoke, where she swam the maximum seven events allowed.
She came first in the 200-metre backstroke, tied a Barracudas club record, and became the top ranked swimmer in the country for that age group in that event.
She also swam the 100-metre backstroke and placed second, making her the third ranked swimmer in the country in that event. She also placed in the top eight in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.
Amanda will compete in the national championships later this year.
This week, readers also nominated Frontenac Secondary School hockey player Anthony Lyon, who recently helped the Falcons to a KASSAA championship.
