The Awards Banquet was a great success as usual. There was lots
of good food, entertainment and everyone had a good time. A big thank
you to Jan and her helpers, who worked hard to put it all
together!
After the food was devoured the awards were
given out and
then the swimmers had their turn providing the evening's
entertainment. The night ended with the three senior swimmers who
will be leaving the team next year: Andras
Switzer, Nick McGraw and
Rebecca Cronkwright delivering their farewell speeches. Best
wishes to each of you as you move forward in life.
All
of
the swimmers deserve a pat on the back for the fine effort they put
forth
this year. Have a good summer and see you all in the fall for
an even better year of swimming. (click

April 22, 2008- It
was a successful weekend for the Ernestown Barracuda's, defending their
position in Division II of the swim world. Swim offs were
held
across the province this weekend, as all swim clubs in Ontario looked
to defend or better their rankings in the swim world. The
ErnestownBarracuda's ended up in 6th place out of 18 teams at
Laurentian University, up three positions from last year. The
team also collected more points for their swims. All top 8 finishes for
each swim, in each age group, was worth points. Relay teams
took
double points, so it was with great excitement that the crowd watched
the girls 13/14 free relay team finish in top place. The
same group also took 3rd in
the Individual medley relay. Two girls in that age group,
Allie Duff and Laurie Perry captured both first and second place in the
100/200 Meter backstroke races as well. Duff took first place
in all 5 of her individual events. 12 year old Amanda McCormack took 4
golds and a silver home after the weekend of swimming. 17 year old
Rebecca Cronkwright and 12 year old Hannah Sutherland came home with 4
medals each, 1 silver and 3 bronze place finishes. Both
swimmers also came in 4th
place in their fifth swim. Not to be outdone, 16 year old Stefan Ruksys
brought home 3 medals, a 2nd in the 400 IM, and 3 third place finishes,
in the 200 IM and 1500 M
free. 14 year old Leah
Mayer took silver in the 800 Free. 17 year olds, Michael
Watkins and Emily Welham, along with 15 year old Martin Bloestein all
brought home a bronze medal. (submitted by: Dianne Sutherland)
