May 11-13, 2012 (Festival of Spring)
While other visitors may have been in
Ottawa for Tulip Festival, the Ernestown Barracuda Swim Club was there
to collect bouquets of medals. 12 year old Vanessa Gervais had the biggest
bunch, medaling in all 6 of her races. It was 3 first-place
finishes, one second- and two third-place finishes. A number of
swimmers collected 2 medals while having other top 8 swims. Brianna Coens, 15, Madison Edgar, 14, and 13 year old Sophia Smith all had a first and a
third place finish while collecting other points for the team. 10
year old Dru Pierson took 2
silver medals home, while 17 year old Jesse
Thomas had 2 bronze medals and a provincial time in his 100M
Butterfly. A number of single medal winners include 10 year old Andy Cai with a gold. Silver
medal winners were 11 year old Nathan
Little, 15 year old Andie Rose
LeDoux, and 14 year old Carolyn
Poucher. Bronze winners were 16 year old Hannah and 15 year old Abby Sutherland, 13 year olds Kiliah Barker, Ryan Hu and 10 year old Lauren Dowling. Other
teammates that had top 8 finishes include Amanda MacCormack, 18 year old Sam Searle, 14 year olds Sarah Rebec, Matthew Suo, Sean Ditmore, Emily Barker and Paige Palmer. The 13 year old
top 8 swimmers were Tina Cai, Evan Jackson, Nick Vanderschoor, and Juniors Luke and Jakob Tulk and Julie White. |
April 20-22, 2012 (Team Champs)
It was
exciting, it was loud, and it was successful. The Ernestown
Barracuda Swim Club were able to handily hold on to their position in
Division II this weekend, as the swimmers swam for the team at the
Brantford Wayne Gretzky Sports complex. It's the one swim meet of
the year where the swimmers are swimming for the team, not just
themselves. All top 8 finishes are worth points, and the
Barracuda's goal was to stay in this division, and the 30 swimmers
pulled it off.
Helping to accomplish the goal, 16 year old Amanda MacCormack's 5 medal swims
... including 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Teammates 16 year
old Hannah Sutherland and 12
year old Vanessa Gervais added
to the medal collection with their one gold and silver each.
Sutherland also had 5th and 7th place swim, while Gervais had a 5th and
8th place swim. 18 year old Emanuella
Delaney added to the points with 2nd, 4th and 2-fifth place
finishes. Kristin Buchanan,
18, had a 3rd place finish in an exciting 50M Freestyle race, and a 5th
and 6th place finish. 15 year old Brianna
Coens added to the total with a 3rd in the 200M Butterfly,
a 4th in the 100M Butterfly, and 8th in the 200M Individual
Medley. 17 year old Jesse Thomas had a number of
personal best finishes while collecting points with a 5th place in the
200M Backstroke, and 7th places in the 10 M Back and 200M
Butterfly. For 10
year old Jakob Tulk, his first
trip to Team Champs was successful with a 6th, 2 7th's and an 8th place
finish. 9 year old Dru Pierson
had a 6th place race in the 50M Backstroke and 8th in the 50M
Fly. 10 year old Taylor Howe
also did well in her first visit, with a 4th and a 7th place
ranking. Other point collectors for the team included Sophia Smith, 13, with 2 top 8
races, Madison Edgar,14, with
a 4th and 7th place. The relay teams also added to the excitement
with the 10 and under girls team coming in top 8 in both relays.

March 1-4, 2012 (Junior Provincials)
Top eight finishes were in the lanes for
swimmers with the Ernestown Barracuda Swim Club. It was two
finals for 16 year old Hannah
Sutherland, heading to the Canadian Olympic Trials later this
month. She finished 4th in her 200M Butterfly, and 6th in her
100M Butterfly. She had a personal best in the 100M Fly with a
time of 1:03:61. Teammate 16 year old Amanda MacCormack had a terrific
swim in the 200M Backstroke, coming in 5th place, and a personal best
with a 2:17:91. 12 year old Vanessa
Gervais also attended the Junior Provincials at the Nepean
Sportsplex, swimming personal bests in 4 of her swims. They were
joined by teammates Brianna Coens, Carolyn Poucher and Jesse Thomas. |
February
25-26, 2012 (KBM Short
Course Finale)
A successful swim meet for Ernestown Barracuda swimmers competing
across town at the KBM meet. Swimmers who reached the podium for
each of their swims include 11 year old Nathan Little with 3 first- and 2
third- place finishes, 12 year old Luke
Tulk with 2 first- and 3 second-place swims, and 13 year
olds Tina Cai and Sophia Smith. Cai had 2
first-, 2 second-and a third-place finish. Smith had a
first-place finish, and 2 each of second- and third-place swims.
Also included are 14 year olds Sarah Rebec, with 3 firsts, one second
and one third, Madison Edgar
with 2 firsts and 3 seconds, and Andie
Rose LeDoux with 2 firsts, one second- and 2 third-place swims.
10 year olds Taylor Howe and Jake Tulk both finished top three in
4 of their races. Howe had a hattrick of first place
finishes and a second place. Tulk had 1 first and 3 second
place races. 15 year old Bronwyn
Crawford had one first-place swim, a second-and a
third-place finish. 16 year old James
Xie had 2 second-place finishes and a third-place. 16
year old Nick Hartman had 2 firsts and a third place
finish. Charlotte
Mace,
15, had 2 firsts and a third-place race. Sarah Daigle, 15, had 1 first-
and a pair of second-place finishes. 13 year old Megan Dowling had one of each
spot on the podium. Thomas Lee,
13, had a second- and 3 third-place races over the weekend. 11
year old Lydia Vandenengel had
a first-place finish in the 50M Backstroke and 2 second-place spots.
Other swimmers who ended up on the podium at least once at
Artilliary Park include Lauren
Dowling, Hayley Maloney, Callum Edwards, Rhys Partridge, Katrina
Hartmann, Julia White, Sean Ditmore, Lucie Amson, Jonah Doering,
Lochlyn O'Reilly, Ryan Hu, Dru Pierson, Abby Sutherland, Josiah
Ascough, Grace MacArthur, Maddie Roseberry, Lillian Crowder, Andy Cai,
and Jaycee Farmer.
Except for swimmers heading to Olympic Trials at the end of March,
there are no other swim competitions for the month.

Februrary 16-18, 2012 (Speedo Eastern Candian
Championships)
It was an exciting weekend for Ernestown Barracuda
swimmers as they competed
at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in Gatineau. It was
personal best swims for some of the
girls, as they competed against 600 others from across the country. It was an 11th
place finish for 16 year old Amanda
MacCormack
in the 1500M Freestyle. She also finished with a 17th
place finish in the 800M Freestyle.
Teammate 16 year old Hannah Sutherland finished 18th in
both the 100M and 200M Butterfly.
She broke her
personal best in the 100M Fly
with a 103.99 sec finish. Sutherland
also had a personal best swim in the 50 M Butterfly with a 29.42. It also is a new
club record. 15 year old Brianna
Coens also swam to a
personal best in the 50M Fly with a 30.26. Coens also swam 100M and
200M
Butterfly. 18 year old Emanuelle
Delaney swam a 101.08 in
the 100M Freestyle, and a
30.80 in the 50M Backstroke, both personal bests for her. MacCormack,
Sutherland and Coens will all compete
at the Provincials in 10 days at the Nepean Sportsplex.

Februrary 3-5, 2012 (EOSA)
It was another exciting competition at the
Nepean Sportsplex, where over
30 of the Ernestown Barracudas were trying to make their goals. 10 year
old Lydia
Vandenengel came in first in the 100M Backstroke in the girls 10
and under
division. She took 4 seconds off her
personal best. She also had a 2nd place
finish in the 50M Backstroke. 11 year old Nathan Little came
home with a 2nd in his 20M Breaststroke and a third in the
50M Back. 12 year old Vanessa Gervais
came home with a hat trick of third-place
finishes ... including the 100M and 200M Backstrokes and the 50M
Free.
17 year old Emanuelle Delaney
had a second-place
finish in the 50M Backstroke and a third-place finish in the 100M
Backstroke. Teammate Amanda
MacCormack
followed, taking a 3rd in the 50M Backstroke. Carolyn Poucher,
13, Jesse Thomas, 17 both came
in third in their 50M
Backstroke races, and both their times were Age Group times, allowing
them to compete
in Calgary this summer. 15 year old Brianna Coens came
in second in the 200M Butterfly, while 16 year old Hannah
Sutherland came in third in the 50M Fly. Logan Clancy, 11,
came in third in the 100M Freestyle, and 14 year old Courtney Buchanan
came in third in her 50M Breaststroke. Buchanan also came in 5th
in the 50M
Backstroke, giving her an Age Group time as well, sending her to
Calgary this
summer. 14 year old Andie Rose LeDoux
came in 4th in the 800M Freestyle and 5th
in the 1500M Freestyle, taking over a minute and a half off her
personal best.
Delaney, Coens, MacCormack and
Sutherland will be in Gatineau
mid-February at the Eastern Canadian Championships.

January 21-22, 2012 (EBSC Meet)
Another successful weekend for Ernestown
Barracuda swimmer Nick Vanderschoor.
The 12 year old won all 4 of his swims, including setting a meet record
in the 100M IM at a meet hosted by his own team. 10 year old Lydia Vandenengel accomplished the
same feat in her home pool, winning all 4 of her swims in the one day
meet. First-year swimmer 10 year old Jakob Tulk also won all 4 of his
races. 12 year old Vanessa
Gervais took 3 firsts and one second-place finish in the morning
of a meet that saw 150 swimmers gather in Amherstview. Novice
swimmer Grace MacArthur, 10,
and 12 year old Katrina Hartman
both had 2 first-place finishes. Andy
Cai, Callum Edwards,
and Taylor Howe, 10, Logan Clancy and Nathan Little, 11, and Luke Tulk, 12, all took home at
least 1 red ribbon. Other junior swimmers that placed in at least
one top-three finish include ... Dru

Kaliah Barker, Willem Day, Rhys Partridge, Lillian Crowder, Julia White, Tim Lee and Josiah Ascough. In the Senior

Sutherland had 4 wins in 4 races ... 13 year old Carolyn Poucher came in first in 3
of her races, and 14 year old Madison
Edgar came in first in two of her swims. Other EBSC senior
swimmers who won at least one of their races at the home pool include: Sarah Rebec, Andie Rose LeDoux, Chad Coleman, Matthew Suo, Charlotte Mace, Nick Hartman, Sean Ditmore, Bronwyn Crawford, and Courtney Buchanan.
Meanwhile, a handful of senior swimmers
participated in the Ontario Cup held at the University of Toronto on
Saturday and Sunday. Amanda
MacCormack posted the best result, finishing 20th in the 100M
Backstroke with a 1:09:03. MacCormack was joined by Kristin
Buchanan, Emanuelle Delaney, Brianna Coens and Jesse Thomas. More
than 40 teams from around the province participated at that event.
Regionals will be held the first weekend
of February in Nepean, where many of the team will be looking to post
personal bests and gain a provincial time.

January 6-8, 2012 (Perth Meet)
A super end to Christmas break for
Ernestown Barracuda swimmer Nick
Vanderschoor. The 12 year old took first place in all 6 of his
events at the Mike Brown Invitational Swim Meet in Perth this
weekend. Not only did he capture all gold, against 12 year old
males from 9 other clubs, but he continues to take huge amounts of time
off of his personal bests in each swim. 12 year old Vanessa Gervais also came in first
place in the 200M
Freestyle race against others her
age. She also came in 3rd place in the 400M Freestyle, knocking
28 seconds off her personal best time. 14 year old Madison Edgar had a second-place
finish in the 200M Free and a hat trick of third-place finishes.
10 year old Lydia Vandenengel
had 4 third-place finishes including the 100M and 200M
backstroke. 15 year old Georgia
Duff had a second-place finish in the Senior girl's
division in the 200M Backstroke, and 2 third-place finishes. 14
year old Andie Rose LeDoux and
13 year old Matthew Suo both
came back with 3 third-place finishes at the end of the weekend.
15 year old Bronwyn Crawford
had a second-place finish in the 200M Freestyle and a third-place
finish in the 100M Butterfly.
The Barracudas along with other clubs
meet again in the Amherstview pool on January 21st, as swimmers attempt
to qualify for regionals the first weekend of February.

December 1-4, 2011 (KBM Meet)
Hard work is beginning to pay off for swimmers. 12 year old Nick Vanderschoor is celebrating 5
first-place finishes at the recent KBM meet. Taking top spot in
all 5 of his races, Vanderschoor is beginning to see results. 12
year old Kaliah Barker had a
hat trick of first-place finishes and second-place finishes, giving her
ribbons in all 6 of her swims as well. Logan Clancy, 11, had a couple of
first-place finishes and 4 second-place ribbons, all in a day's work.
10 year old Lydia Vandenengel
had three first-place finishes and 2 second-place finishes.
12 year old Ashley Pascoal and
13 year old Matthew Suo walked
away with the same record, 1 first, 2 seconds and 2 third-place
finishes. Katrina Hartman,
11, and Emily Barker,
14, both had a hat trick of first-place finishes and a second-place
finish to round out their days. Tina
Cai, just turned 13, had a first, second and 2 third-place
finishes. 12 year old Maggie
McDonell took home 1 second and 4 third-place ribbons.
Newcomers Matthew Fairfax, 10, Willem Day, 12 and Callum Edwards, 10, all brought home
3 ribbons. Other swimmers who ribboned in 3 of their races
include James Xie, 15, Nathan Little, 11, Paige Palmer and Jaycee Farmer, both 13 years
old. Barracudas who got 2 ribbons each include Desiree Buzzi, 14, Grace MacArthur, 10, Lucie Amson, 11, Rhys Patridge, 11, Ryan Hu and Thomas Lee, both 13, and 10 year old
Taylor Howe.
Swimmers who ribboned in at least one event include 9 year olds Mira Davis and Andy Cai, and Jonah Doering, 12. Swimmers
will compete again in the Perth meet, first full
weekend of January, or our meet on January 21st.

December 1-4, 2011 (Youth Cup)
Tough, tough competition, with more than a thousand swimmers at the
Youth Cup swim meet in Etibicoke early this month. But, besides pushing
the swimmers, it allowed Barracudas to achieve some personal bests
at the meet. Any top 10 finish at a meet of this size is
remarkable.
14 year old Brianna Coens led
the charge, coming home with a 4th place and a personal best in the
100M Butterfly, and a 7th place, and personal best in the 200M
Butterfly.
13 year old Carolyn Poucher
had a 6th place finish and a personal best time in the 200M Backstroke.
16 year old Amanda McCormack
finshed 11th in the 100M Backstroke. 14 year old Courtney Buchanan finished 13th in
the 100M Breaststroke. 13 year old Megan
Dowling finished 18th in the 100M Breaststroke for her age
group. 16 year old Hannah
Sutherland finished 10th in the 200M Butterfly, and 12th in
the 100M Butterfly.
Other swimmers who represented the Barracudas at Youth Cup
included Vanessa Gervais, Andie Rose LeDoux, Sophia Smith, Sarah
Rebec, Abigail Sutherland, Georgia Duff, Kristin Buchanan,

11-13, 2011 (EBSC Meet)
More than 250 swimmers from across
Eastern Ontario gathered in Amherstview over the weekend for the
three-day Ernestown Barracuda Fall
Invitational Swim Meet.
It was a weekend of firsts for
Ernestown Barracuda swimmers Lydia
Vandenangel, 10, and 15
year old Hannah Sutherland.
Both girls had six first-place finishes, and took home the High Point
award for their divisions. Sutherland also smashed four meet
records. 17 year old Kristin
Buchanan had top-three finishes in her six swims as well. 14
year old Brianna Coens had
three top swims as well as a 2nd place finish. Madison Edgar, 14, and 12 year olds Sophia Smith and Tina Cai all finished with four
ribbons at the end of the day. 12 year old Vanessa Gervais, 9 year old Julia White and 11 year old Logan Clancy each took home
three top-three finishes.
For the boys, 12 year old Ryan Hu
had five ribbons, including a first-place finish, two second-place
finishes and two third-place finishes. Chad Coleman, 13, placed in the
top-three in a hat trick. Jesse
Thomas, 17, Matthew Suo,
13, and newcomer Matthew Fairfax
took home a pair of ribbons each. Others who made the trip to podium
over the weekend include Andie Rose
LeDoux, Carolyn Poucher, and Willem Day. 12 year old Josiah Ascough took home a
first-place finish in the 200M Breaststroke.
Senior swimmers will be
traveling to Etobicoke for the international swim meet, Youth Cup
at the beginning of December.

4-6, 2011 (Oshawa and Barrie Meets)
Swimmers from the Ernestown Barracuda Swim Club made waves across the
province this weekend, as Senior swimmers traveled to Barrie, and
Junior swimmers were in Oshawa for a weekend Swim Meet.
In Oshawa:
The Juniors 12 year olds Tina Cai
and Sophia Smith dominated the
11-12 year old girl division, taking home medals in all six of
their swims. Cai took home first place in the 100M and 200M
Freestyle and 100M Backstroke. She swam to a silver medal
in the 200M Individual medley, and bronze medals in the 50M Freestyle
and 200M Backstroke. Smith won the gold in the 100M Butterfly,
and 200M Individual Medley. It was all silver medals in the
remaining 4 swims. 9 year old Andy
Cai won the 100M Breaststroke race for the 10 and under
boys. He was also second in the 50M Breast and 100M Freestyle.
In Barrie:
Brianna Coens, 14,
took the top podium in the 100M Butterfly and the 400M Individual
Medley and second in the 200M IM and Freestyle. 17 year old Kristin Buchanan came in 2nd in the
200M Freestyle and 3rd in the 200M Backstyle. And Emanuelle Delaney also had a second
place finish in the senior girls category, in the 200M IM.

It was 11th place in the country for Ernestown
Barracuda swimmer Amanda McCormack
in the 1500M Freestyle race at the
Pan-Am Game Trials in Pointe Claire, Quebec this past weekend. The 15
year was competing against the best swimmers in Canada, along with
swimmers from Mexico, Brazil, Denmark, France and various places in the
States.
17 year old Allie Duff was
also
busy, swimming in a number of
finals. Her best finish was 14th in the 200M Backstroke, but the best
story for Duff, was her 32nd place finish after the preliminaries in
the 400M Individual Medley, but was able to swim in the finals in the
evening, and won her heat, putting in 21st place in the country at the
end of the day. Duff also finish 17th place in the 200M Individual
Medley, and 19th place in the 100M Backstroke.
First time attendee at a Senior National Meet, 15 year old Hannah
Sutherland also made final in the 200M Butterfly, finishing in
29th
place. She also had personal best finishes in the 50M Butterfly and the
200M
Backstroke.
All three swimmers travel to Montreal on Monday to attend the final
meet of this swim season, the Canadian Age Group Championship, to be
held at
the outdoor competition site at the Jean Drapeau Park. They will be
joined by 4 other team members. |

It was a weekend worth
celebrating for the Ernestown Barracuda Swim Club who were in Etobicoke
for the Long Course Provincial meet. For 15 year old Amanda McCormack, it was one of each
medal, gold,
silver and bronze. All three top 3 swims were in the distance.
It was the 1500M freestyle bringing the gold, and the 800M
bringing the
bronze. It was the 400M freestyle that McCormack took the silver
in.
For 17 year old Allie Duff,
swimming in her last Provincial Swim competition as an Ernestown
Barracuda, it was a hat trick of silver medals for her. Duff took
second spot in the 200M and 400M Individual
Medleys, and second in the 200M Backstroke.
And for 15 year old Hannah Sutherland,
it was a gold in the 200M Butterfly, and a bronze in the 100M
fly. Sutherland also set the standard by breaking the meet record
in the 200M Fly by over a second, a
record that has stood since 2006. The team finished in
18th place, at a competition where 48 teams collected points over
the 48 teams that earned points.
Other top 8 finishers include 13 year old Carolyn Poucher.
These 4 swimmers will be joined by team mates Laura Perry, Emanuelle
Delaney
and Brianna Coens at National level meets later this month, both in
Quebec. |
